We're proud of our organic gardens and how they've helped families across Virginia eat more happily and healthfully and experience the joy of photosynthesis. Here are some questions we are frequently asked:

What do you mean you bring a complete and growing garden to my yard?

You choose the size of the garden and the type of food (the theme); we get the plants started and deliver a growing garden to your yard. See how it works.

What do I have to do to grow my garden?

Our gardens come complete with the plants growing, so all you have to do is follow the care sheet guidelines and then eat your produce. Please see our care guide for specific instructions, trouble shooting, and feasting ideas!

Do I have to water the garden?

Our watering system may be added to your order. It comes complete with drip irrigation and a convenient timer. Please see our care guide for information on how and when to water your garden.

What do I do at the end of the season?

We can replace your plants for you each season. Also, our care guide can guide you through starting your own seedlings and eventually harvesting them.

What if my plants die or are attacked by varmints?

We suggest you purchase a shotgun. Just kidding! See our care guide for tips in avoiding disease and varmints.

Do I need to add fertilizer?

Fertilizer is not a bad word — fertilizer just means food and nutrients, which can come from organic components. You do need to feed your garden periodically, especially when it shows the signs described in the care sheet. We recommend that you order some of our organic fertilizer.

How much sun do my plants need?

For most of our gardens, 8 hours of sunlight would be ideal. You can check this by putting a stick in the ground where you want your garden. Watch the shadow throughout the day. When it appears, start your timer. When it disappears, check to see if you have eight hours. If you don't get that much sun just order our Shady Grove themed garden, it requires much less light.

How do I dice a tomato?

Often! And any way you want! You can't really mess up a fresh, home-grown tomato. Unless you try do too much. A sharp knife helps, then salt, pepper, and basil.

How do I make pesto?

A basic recipe is the following, but play around with it. Use sun-dried tomatoes, or throw in some lemon zest. Buy some of our cinnamon scented basil. The most important consideration is to use good ingredients.

Puree together:

5 cups basil leaves
1/4 cup parsley
3/4 cup olive oil
2 Tbs garlic
1/2 cup pine nuts
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup romano/parmesan/pecorino cheese
